I keep coming back to this one, let me tell you why – I have written a book about Samurai and want to promote it with a theme like this.
The trouble is I’ve played with the idea many times for over a year now and just cant seem to design for myself (!).
How much would you charge me to change the blue background to something ‘oriental’?

That wouldn’t be too hard. I’ll do it, if you just explain a bit more, what is your definition of “oriental”?
Do you have any examples?
Also, the XCF and PSD files are included in the package, so you could easily change it yourself.

I’m not sure if I understood you correctly. By text part, did you mean the actual white main content section?
You can easily get more space for the image section just by moving the div#page more to the left by incrementing its left position value in the CSS file.
You could also increment the width of the div#product to get more room for your image if it doesn’t fit in the current element.
